Antigua Guatemala

Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. It is famous for its Spanish colonial buildings, many of which were restored after the 1773 earthquake that ended Antigua's 200-year reign as Guatemala's colonial capital. Notable examples of the architecture include La Merced, a low, yellow and white Baroque-style church. It is an integral part of the city's famous Holy Week celebrations, with processions and rituals.
